Experience a different type of Yorkshire attraction this year – Discover Nidderdale Llamas in Harrogate

We were in the beautiful setting of Harrogate for a few days. It’s really one of our favourite places to visit when in the scenic setting of Yorkshire. We had asked several guests of ours when they were staying at our hotels in Harrogate some of their favourite attractions.
They had mentioned Harrogate has a wealth of places to be discovered quite a large percentage mentioned Nidderdale Llamas just outside the town, near Pateley Bridge.

We are real animal lovers here at myhotelbreak. We love Llamas and Alpacas too. So this was an opportunity not to be missed. We found out that this attractions offers the chance to have experiences and go on treks with these wonderful animals around Nidderdale.

When looking to book we realised there were tons of different options available. This included Scenic Farm Treks, Half Day Treks and Full Day Treks and a couple of family and interactive experiences.
We wanted to spend quite a bit of time here so we booked the Half Day Trek. This was solely to experience some time with the Llamas. We must say the staff were amazing from the second we arrived. So knowledgeable and caring about the Alpacas and Llamas. We were paired with Llamas which suited our personalities best while we also went through the drill of what was going to happen on the day ahead. We were also given great tips on how to handle the Llamas when we were out trekking. We were paired with Anya and Woody and they were a joy.
The Nidderdale scenery really added to the whole experience. The ground covered is easy to navigate on the main. The pace travelled was a nice meandering pace too so it was overall very relaxing, stopping on route in a gorgeous woodland setting to enjoy beverages carried by the llamas!
The session lasts around 4.5 hours and we would really recommend it to anyone. What’s even more fantastic is the picnic lunch back at the farm after the experience. It made us very hungry to say the least and was all homemade, a real special highlight.

Anything else we should know?

This attraction is pre-booking only, due to a high regard for animal welfare and excellent customer experience. There are limited places on each option, so you receive more or less personal attention. It is not an attraction where you can just turn up & directions to find this gem, are only provided when you book.

You can book a wealth of options for adults and families with older children, (please note all children must be over 7yrs to participate and enter the farm, they do not accept younger children as the activities are not appropriate and it is not operating as petting farm).
They also offer Llama and Alpaca Therapy, Llamas and Alpacas for weddings and much more.

No wonder this is one of the most popular attractions not just in Harrogate but in the whole of Yorkshire. Take time out on your next hotel break in Yorkshire and book in at Nidderdale Llamas.

Llama with no drama! The Junior Experience here at Nidderdale Llamas was everything we hoped it would be. Went with a 13 year old and an 8 year old. The 8 year old was a little apprehensive as he can be nervous around animals but he had an awesome time. Our host was Jessica who was very friendly and so knowledgeable about her subject. We learned loads! We were able to meet a few different llamas and alpacas in the barn first (having been first advised how to handle them to make it enjoyable for the humans and the animals) and then went out for a trek with Simon the alpaca and Magic the llama. Such lovely friendly gentle creatures, we enjoyed every minute of our walk with them (particularly the cuddles with Magic!). Very impressed. We will definitely be back!

Magical Wonderful trek with the gorgeous llamas. Whole experience was well organised by friendly and knowledgeable staff. We had a really intresting talk first and were introduced to the different types of llama and alpaca, before being matched to our particular llama for the trek. Expensive, I know, but absolutely worth it, so if you are in two minds, definitely go for it. We all had a wonderful time, not an easy task with teenagers!

Wonderful Llama trekking experience This is a really well managed experience. The staff are knowledgeable and you can tell the llamas and alpacas are happy. Got to see some babies. One just 2 days old. What a privilege! Our trek was cut short due to lightning which was a good call. Tick in the box for safety. We had a good hour + with our llama, Kevin. I wish the business well as we thoroughly enjoyed it and would return.

Fabulous trek and gift experience Visited this weekend with my sister and had a great time. The trek was really enjoyable, informative and entertaining. The Llamas were amazing and all set in the beautiful Nidderdale countryside. This was a gift for my sister, thank you for a special day.

Drama llamas (must visit) can’t wait to go back Absolutely fantastic experience, the guides was amazing, very informative and so friendly. Brilliant experience. On a very hot afternoon we wondered what was in store. The whole experience was very professionally managed, from the introduction to the trek itself, where we were introduced to the animals to the trek itself. We were given clear instructions about handling the Llamas. As we walked along the knowledgeable staff answered our questions and added little snippets of interesting detail. The llamas and alpacas themselves looked very well cared for as did the whole site. The tea and cake was very welcome at the end of the trek. I would highly recommend this excellent experience.

Loved it! Such a great day, Jess who looked after us pn the trek was fab and shared lots of info about Llamas and Alpacas, and all about the ones they have on the farm. A great location, beautiful scenery and the facilities were clean and tidy, perfect :)

Amazing birthday surprise Highly recommend this. It was an amazing birthday surprise. We walked with Sid and he was lovely. The ladies who ran the experience were excellent and so friendly. Definitely worth the money.

The loveliest experience We had the most wonderful experience on a half day trek, the whole Nidderdale Llamas team are extremely accommodating and went to extra lengths to make sure the day went ahead as planned. The trek itself was a perfect pace to take in the lovely scenery and get plenty of time to enjoy the llama's company without being too taxing for people of any age. There are plenty of breaks and everyone on the trek is well taken care of by the leader, kept safe with traffic and reassured of any odd llama behaviour. The llamas are super well behaved and, as a result, far too easy to fall in love with! Huge shout out to Jess, our trek leader, for such an in-depth explanation of llama behaviour and what to expect at the start of the trek, I think it really put my mum at ease and helped her enjoy the day. She was more than happy to answer any and all of our myriad of llama questions and was so lovely and inclusive of everyone on the trek. I really hope to come back soon!

Best birthday surprise My friends booked this walk as a surprise for my birthday. We started the trip with an in depth talk about the llamas and alpacas. We had a brilliant host called jess and she explained all the breed differences and how they are trained using their personalities. Their hierarchy dictates that they can tell eachother off but people are always in charge. Just to make sure you have the best time you are speed dated with the llamas. My friends shared Billy and I was the proud walker of Tony. We were also joined by Ozzie and Stanley. We went for a walk around nidderdale and the llamas were so well behaved. On the way home all the others in the field come to say hello and we were told who is related to who. We finished our walk with cakes and a drink. Can't recommend this enough. My face still hurts from smiling ????

Would highly recommend Nidderdale Llama experience from start to finish. Was a surprise birthday from my husband and son. We all had such a fun time. As a group we did the farm experience and shared a llama between two. The staff were fantastic, knew their stuff and taught us loads about llamas and alpacas! They matched us up with a suitable llama (cheeky, calm, naughty you name it they had it). The trek was great and the llamas were really well trained. Great credit to the company and would 100% recommend it to anyone

What an amazing experience. Everything about this experience was exceptional start to finish from the admin and customer service to the actual experience itself. I took my mum who has dimentia and I would thoroughly recommend it. Being with animals has always appealed to mum and she loved taking them for a little walk, seeing the babies and being told a bit about their traits etc

Really enjoyed our time at Nidderdale for the scenic llama trek. Staff were lovely and even had gluten free cakes and flapjacks for afterwards with our drinks. You need to book in advance.
